The US Government Is Forcing Streaming Services to Pay Songwriters 43.8% More  A new ruling from the US Government requires that streaming music services raise their royalty rates for songwriters and music publishers. The United States Copyright Board (CRB) held hearings from March to June of  2017 to determine if it should raise, lower or do nothing to the royalty rates in regards to mechanical royalties.  On Saturday, January 28th, it issued its long awaited decision, and the news was good. https://www.digitalmusicnews.com/2018/01/28/us-government-songwriter-royalty/

YouTube has become a registration agency for the International Standard Name Identifier (ISNI) initiative. YouTube will now will request an ISNI, a unique identifier, to be assigned to all creators whose works are used on the platform – including performers and songwriters – which it says will help to ‘reconcile data and ensure attribution’. ISNI is the ISO-certified global standard number for identifying millions of contributors to creative works and those active in their distribution... https://www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/youtube-commits-to-assigning-isni-identifiers-for-songwriters-and-artists/

Radio Can't Accommodate Today's Hits Historically, traditional music radio didn't worry about how to manage multiple songs by hot artists. The record companies would release a single, if the stations' programming directors thought those songs were hits, they'd play them until that song ran through its popularity lifecycle; then the record company would release the artist's next single. It was a comfortable process - one that followed a process and it worked. On-demand streaming has changed all that... http://www.bridgeratings.com/accommodate-hits/

The Numbers Prove It - The World Is Listening To The Music It Loves On YouTube It’s no secret that YouTube is one of the most popular websites in the world, but even knowing that, the numbers connected to the service can still be mind-boggling, especially when it comes to music. While it wasn’t created to be a streaming music service, the Google-owned platform remains the single most-used website in the world to listen to music legally... https://www.forbes.com/sites/hughmcintyre/2017/09/27/the-numbers-prove-it-the-world-is-listening-to-the-music-it-loves-on-youtube/#1eedbe961614

Understanding Music and Blockchain Without the Hype  As a blockchain pragmatist, I’ve always been a supporter of many ideas proposed (better data/improved efficiencies), but skeptical of whether or not any of them actually improve the current situation, exacerbate it, or are in fact possible.
