Starting your own Recording Company

By K H Smith - 07-19-2017 IFS

WEST SACRAMENTO CA (IFS) --  Starting your very own recording label is a chore unto itself. We have listed below the divisions of the recording company that you will have to run along with just your dream of recording all these songs and putting them out there for the masses.  The below picture is from the UMG.com  - Universal Music Group music site under their jobs research area.

The first thing with a recording company is that you have to have at lease one (1) HIT Record out of the box on the first release.  The problem is the second HIT Record.  The Billboard Charts are littered with one hit wonders.

The old rule of thumb was that you had to press a minimum of ten (10) ten singles with one of them taking off.  The remaining singles are put on an LP and you triple your money on the sales.

Today's rule of thumb - one single recording digitally uploaded to CDBaby.com, iTunes.com, Amazon.com and with blog promotions, and internet radio, all of the social media flashes when you post.  When you are a part of one of these social sites, at least one of friends that follows you may have a large following in the 100,000 plus range, connected to several persons with large followings, and with a click of the button, you have put your song on over 1 Million sites on just "following" several of your friends that follow you.

The buttons below have been created over the years and their scope of the job has been cut into two parts, and then several jobs into several departments.  The record company is (1) A&R, (2) Human Resources and Legal, (3) Royalties and Copyright.  The new boy on the block is Digital Media Marketing.  The quickest press for digital broadcasting -- Google Plus.  It is the New Year Times of the internet.  Posting on Google Plus on the public site exposes your post to 16 Million viewers as of this writing and growing daily.

The first CD to be completely digitally distributed with great success was by Dolly Parton.  Up to this writing, the next totally released digital success story was Chance the Rapper who did not use any promotions team, used all of the free promotion packages online and free radio uploads for digital release and received three (3) Grammy's all without any major label involvement.

To help you get started with your dream, http://www.sdcomnimedia.net has put together a number of software files and programs to get you up and running with minimal difficulty.  CKS Software in the downloads section and more forms and documents in the SDC Books section.
